Pharmacy Technology
This program prepares students for entry level employment as a Pharmacy Technician working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Students are exposed to the differences between community and hospital-based pharmacy technician roles and are trained as safe, competent, ethical practitioners.
Students learn to assist the pharmacist in collecting, organizing & evaluating data for patient care, drug use and pharmacy management. With a foundation in drug classifications, therapies and interactions, they learn to review and process prescriptions, calculate dosages, and prepare solutions in a variety of health care settings while applying aseptic technique for patient safety.
The field of pharmacy changes with advances in research and technology. Graduates may serve the pharmacy needs of patients as well as pharmaceutical companies engaged in the research and production of new drugs. Employment opportunities exist in outpatient and community healthcare centers, hospitals, long-term care facilities, mail-order pharmacies and retail drug stores.
