Diploma - Massage Therapist
The objective of this program is to provide basic knowledge and skills in areas of therapeutic massage to prepare students to pursue entry-level employment as Massage Therapists. Coursework in the program includes instruction in massage techniques and modalities, as well as basic anatomy, physiology and pathology. The program is also designed to instruct students in legal and ethical aspects of massage.
This program includes a Licensure Examination Review course to assist students preparing to take the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEX), provided by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). Successful completion of this exam is required in order to apply for licensure to practice massage therapy in Florida. However, the College cannot guarantee a student's eligibility to take the exam, that they will pass the exam, or become licensed by the Florida Board of Massage Therapy. Eligibility may be affected by a variety of factors, including a criminal background. It is the student's responsibility to inquire into and understand all eligibility requirements. -
Diploma - Medical Assistant Technician
The objective of this program is to provide students with the knowledge and technical skills needed to pursue entry-level employment in the health care industry as Medical Assistant Technicians. Medical assistants work directly with doctors, nurses, and patients in many health care settings, including medical offices, clinics, labs, x-ray facilities, hospitals, and insurance companies. Students are introduced to basic medical terminology, anatomy, human diseases, pharmacology, medical office procedures, and clinical medical assisting skills. Students are trained in front office procedures, such as handling patient accounts and records, word processing, and scheduling of patients. Students are also trained in back office procedures, such as taking vital signs, preparing patients for medical procedures, assisting the physician with examinations and treatments, and performing selected diagnostic tests, as directed by the physician. This program also provides training in basic medical laboratory and X-ray procedures.
Prior to graduation, students are required to complete a 6-week externship course that provides hands-on training in the field. Externship sites may require students to submit to a criminal background check, drug screen, medical examination or other requirements.
Upon graduation, students may elect to take the National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) exam offered by the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT). All students take a Certification Review course at the end of the program, which is designed to assist in preparing for the NCMA exam. However, the College cannot guarantee a student's eligibility to take the exam, or that they will pass the exam. It is the student's responsibility to inquire into and understand all eligibility requirements. -
Diploma - Medical Coding and Billing Specialist
The objective of this program is to provide students with the knowledge and technical skills needed to pursue entry-level employment as Medical Coding and Billing Specialists. The program coursework focuses on helping students gain the basic training necessary to understand and use medical documentation and terminology, as well as assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes using universally recognized coding systems. In addition to the basic billing and coding skills, students will receive instruction in basic anatomy, pathology and human diseases along with computer applications and medical data entry.
Upon graduation, students may elect to take the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT) exam to become a National Certified Insurance and Coding Specialist (NCICS). All students take a Certification Review course at the end of the program, which is designed to assist in preparing the NCICS exam. However, the College cannot guarantee students' eligibility to take the exam, or that they will pass the exam. Diploma - Patient Care Technician
The objective of this program is to provide students with the knowledge and technical skills needed to pursue entry-level employment in the health care industry as Patient Care Technicians. Students in the Patient Care Technician program are instructed in, among other things, patient assistance, geriatric care and nursing assistance. With a focus on patient care skills and life-long learning, graduates of this Diploma Program will be positioned to have the skills and dispositions needed to effectively meet workplace demands.
Prior to graduation, students are required to complete a 6-week clinical rotation in a health care setting, which provides hands-on training in the field. Clinical sites require students to have completed a criminal background check and medical examination and may also require a drug screen, proof of immunizations or other requirements.
Qualified graduates may take the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) state certification exam through the Florida Board of Nursing or the National Certified Patient Care Technician (NCPCT) exam offered by the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT). However, the College cannot guarantee a student's eligibility to take these exams, pass these exams or that they will become licensed by the Florida Board of Nursing. Eligibility may be affected by a variety of factors, including age, high school or GED credentials, and clearing a criminal background check. It is the student's responsibility to inquire into and understand all eligibility requirements.
