American Fork, UT (ClassesandCareers.com) November 17, 2009 – ClassesandCareers.com has announed the winners of its recent contest that encouraged participants to write their scariest stories for a chance to win an Amazon Kindle. Patric Krueger of Port St. Lucie, Fl, and Jabon Dix of American Fork, Ut won the prizes with their scary stories. The winning stories have been placed on ClassesandCareers’ College Life blog.
Krueger won an Amazon Kindle with a true story of a poltergeist that haunted a South Carolina farmhouse that he and his roommates lived in for a few weeks. The events started mildly enough. Objects would go missing, sometimes showing up in strange places. Occasionally they’d wake up and find a circle of silverware on the floor. Eventually a presence started physically harming his roommate. He woke up being smothered once and finally woke up with second-degree burns on his arms. They moved out the next day.
"Wow. This is fantastic. A KINDLE. Thank you so much," Krueger said. "I’m especially glad that people liked the story."
The runner-up was Jabon Dix of American Fork, UT, who told a tale of getting locked and deserted in an abandoned prison. His story left the reader with a feeling of abandonment that is almost haunting.
Krueger has charitable plans for his prize. "I’m going to surprise my Uncle Jimmy this Christmas with the Kindle, which will be fully-loaded with all his favorite books, and then some. Uncle Jimmy is an older fella, retired, and loves history books, especially the Napoleonic Era and pre-revolutionary France. You could say he’s an amateur historian. He has a love for books that is deep and abiding. I’m certain he will be entranced by the new technology and the delivery system the Kindle promises," Krueger said.
ClassesandCareers.com has unveiled their third contest with the close of this competition. Their newest contest asks participants to put together their funniest Christmas video. Submissions can include movie spoofs, carol parodies or original concepts.

American Fork (ClassesandCareers.com) November 17, 2009 — ClassesandCareers.com is challenging its users to submit their funniest Christmas video for a chance to win a PlayStation 3, a Nintendo DS Lite or an Amazon.com Gift Card. The contest has been announced after the success in College Life’s previous contests, featuring scary stories and student scavenging techniques.
College Life is looking for parodies of Christmas classic movies and carols or even original funny Christmas videos. The highest rated video at the end of the contest will be awarded with a PlayStation 3 and second place will win a Nintendo DS Lite. For those who don’t have the means to produce a video, comments and tweets about the contest will enter them into a drawing for a chance to win a $50 Amazon.com Gift Card.
"The videos don’t need to be elaborate or costly, just funny. We don’t care if you do it with a web cam or a blackberry or a RED camera. We just want them to be funny," said Chris Kirkham, a producer for College Life.
This is the first video contest that the site has ever hosted.
"I think it’s a big step. It’s a lot easier to put up a comment or send a tweet out than to make a video– even a simple video. But I think a lot of people have talent in video and comedy and this is a great opportunity to show that off," Kirkham said.
Participants must be 18 or older, the original creator of all content, and must keep all entries family-friendly. To enter the contest, participants should upload a video to YouTube and place the link in the official contest post on College Life. Videos must be shorter than 5 minutes. Entries will be closed after Dec. 12th. The top 8 videos will be entered into a playoff competition that will determine the winners of the competition based on votes. Voting will close on Dec 19th and the winners will be announced on the 20th.

Classesandcareers.com unveils a new navigation bar based on top-down, horizontal models made popular by websites such as Amazon.com. This improved navigation system is designed to allow users to easily negotiate the more than 750 academic programs available through Classesandcareers.com and thereby increase search efficiency and satisfaction. The horizontal navigation system focuses on nine general areas of academic study, which are featured prominently along the top edge and displayed throughout the portal. These general areas of study include business, criminal justice and legal, design, education , health and nursing, IT and engineering, liberal arts, social sciences, and vocational studies. The general areas are written on tabs and can be activated easily on any page in the portal. Once a general area has been selected, a drop-down menu appears, showing more specific areas of study, which in turn lead to common program names. "The revamped navigation system has been a real collaborative effort," says Nicholas Greer, President of Classesandcareers.com (a division of One on One Marketing, Inc.). "It’s been the product of months of research and hundreds of hours of work. But it’s all for the user. The hope is that this new navigation will allow us to help students find exactly the program they want quickly and easily." The new navigation system is one of several innovations Classesandcareers.com has planned for its portal in the coming months. "With each new innovation," Greer notes, "we make it easier for students to find the schools they want, and we make it easier for schools to find the students they want. Everybody’s happy — that’s our goal."
