Pay scale for Mortuary Sciences is Excellent

Morticians and funderal directors generally complete a 2 to 4 year program in mortuary sciences through a community college. These mortuary science programs generally allow students to graduate with an associate's degree (2 years) or a bachelor's degree (4 years) in mortuary sciences. All states require funeral directors to  be state licensed. This generally requires them to be 21 years of age and have at least 2 years of formal education in the field of mortuary sciences. Morticians and funderal directors can make excellent salaries from $38,000 to $69,000 on average in 2008, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Salaries in this field are generally dependent on the location of the funeral home. Metropolitan areas offer better salaries then rural locations. Also, those who have more experience and education generally make higher salaries.
