The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in General Psychology with an emphasis in Cognition and Instruction is geared toward individuals who work in government positions, industry, school systems, and other types of instructional and applied settings. This program also prepares individuals for teaching and research at the university and college level. With a focus on how the human mind works and retains information, the Ph.D. in Cognition and Instruction explores the most effective way to teach and train so that information becomes embedded.  Core areas of knowledge include history and systems of psychology, cognition, research methods, statistics, as well as personality, abnormal, social, multicultural, and developmental psychology.

The curriculum offers an in-depth examination of counseling theories, chemical dependency, marriage and family, social and cultural issues, psychopharmacology, diagnostics, assessment and treatment, psychopathology, research methods, and more. In addition, four practicum-internships provide a total of 600 contact hours of opportunity for students to develop counseling skills.
