The introduction of the Veterans2College program will focus on offering specially designed courses, student support and networking facilities for service members. Students will be enabled to take online classes along with the campus-based sessions, which are found on military bases across the U.S.

"The establishment of Brandman University's Veterans2College program will give veterans access to high-quality education options and help them achieve their personal and professional goals," said Joyce Brandman, president of the Board of Directors of the foundation.

University officials added that the school has a 68 percent graduation rate among active-duty military students, including those who are currently deployed. They note that the reason for this success is because the college focuses on service members’ readjustment to civilian life while helping them succeed in their academics and careers.

According to the Babson Survey Research Group and the Sloan Consortium, more than 4.6 million students were enrolled in online courses in 2008.

The Military Advanced Education journal selected the school as one of its top friendly colleges for service members. This distinction is granted based on each institution’s quality of academics as well as the on-campus and online support they to active-duty soldiers.

“Being recognized by Military Advanced Education as a top institution serving the military is an honorable distinction for Ashworth College,” said Gary M. Keisling, chairman and CEO of the school. “Ashworth is proud to offer a wide range programs to those serving in the U.S. military, their spouses and families and the veteran community.”

College officials said that degree programs cost less than $100 per credit hour and the institution offers military-specific scholarships. Furthermore, the online school does not require students to purchase textbooks, which averages to savings of $1,137 per year. They added that the institution also accepts military experience for college credit, so individuals can graduate and enter the workforce quickly.

According to a recent Babson-Sloan report, more than 25 percent of students are enrolled in at least one course online.

Kaplan University was recently named among America’s Top Military Friendly Colleges and Universities for 2010, by the Military Advanced Education magazine, for the third consecutive year.

Currently, the school offers military personnel a 55 percent reduction for active duty service members and reservists, and a 38 percent reduction for veterans. Furthermore, spouses receive a 10 percent price cut in tuition.

College officials said that the online university employs trained advisors who deal specifically (rep) with military students. They also enable students to use their military training and experience as elective credits toward their degrees.

“Service members have the drive and the discipline to succeed in college; what they need is the flexibility that will allow them to do so while they serve. Our goal is to provide that flexibility with rigorous and meaningful learning,” said Scott Kilgore, senior vice president of military affairs.

The university currently enrolls more than 11,000 active-duty military students, spouses and veterans. According to the 2010 Sloan Survey of Online Learning, enrollment in web-based courses grow by almost 1 million students from 2009.
