State of Inertia…

INERTIA Definition:

1. a : a property of matter by which it remains at rest or in uniform motion in the same straight line unless acted upon by some external force
b : an analogous property of other physical quantities (as electricity)

2. : indisposition to motion, exertion, or change : inertness

Are you completely satisfied in your current state of being? Have you been doing the same thing for years? Do you feel fulfilled with all that life is showing you? When was the last time you learned something new? Do you feel confined by your daily minutia? Do you want more?

We have all been there. We all want more for our lives and sometimes we merely accept everything as it is presented to us. Here’s the thing… We don’t have to! Ofttimes we feel that we are caught; but, we are prisoners of our own limitations! Is this what you want to teach your children? Uhhh… NO!

I would love to say that there is an easy fix. I would love to say leap out on faith and fly. Sometimes, it takes a huge risk and we do find that we can fly. Sometimes, however, we fail. In failure, we learn and grow. Sometimes we struggle and succeed. There is nothing to be learned in fear. Fear of change, fear of growth, fear of actually succeeding are all debilitating. What I do wish to impart right now is this – Stop being afraid! Stop being inert!

After countless years of doing the same thing over and over, I realized that I wasn’t challenging myself! You know what I did? I enrolled in school. Boy! Talk about a challenge! There are many… Through the challenges I am personally learning and growing!

Realistically, let’s look at my life. I am a single mom. I have held decent jobs. I have even set a course for a decent career. I have wonderful friends and a decent social life. I have no real savings of which to speak. I make a living; but, I had to stop and ask myself, “Am I really living?” The answer resonated in my mind. I could be living BETTER! Decent was no longer enough.

Here’s the thing, again… We are who we believe we are. We are an accumulation of experiences and desires. We are supposed to be forever evolving. When we become inert, we stop growing. In essence. we stop living fully. Stillness is wonderful for a time. It helps us to determine our wants and our needs. Do not allow stillness to become stagnation. Stillness can also bring about clarity! After your stillness, you need to ACT!

Perhaps you have been stuck in the same job for some time with no hope of promotion. Perhaps you have a desire to finish school. Maybe you were interrupted because life happened. Relationships came and went. Children were born. Responsibilities flooded your very existence. Don’t forget YOU!

If you are considering going back to school, what’s stopping you? Be your own external force! Change your path. All it takes is desire and a little research. I did it and so can you. Contact your local schools, research online courses, use Classes and Careers as a tool, and make some calls. There is some trial and error. You will find that there is funding out there! Of course there are loans - subsidized and unsubsidized; but, do you know about grants and scholarships? You would be surprised at how easy it actually is to get the ball rolling. And once it’s rolling, guess what? You just changed your own path and broke your own state of inertia.

There can be many benefits of learning a new language. It will enrich your life by giving you new ways to look at the world and relating to different groups of people. You may get to know people that you may not have had the chance to otherwise. Your Learning Style

Everyone realizes that individuals prefer different styles and techniques to learn. Individuals use a mix of learning styles. Some people may have dominant styles, and rarely use different styles, while others may use different styles in different circumstances. Learning styles are not fixed. Anyone can further develop the style that they already use, or a style they rarely use. In the past it was recommended for learners to focus on their dominant style. The enhancement of multiple learning styles have now been emphasized because they allow individuals the ability to learn no matter what format is presented.

Many students that have not used multiple styles of learning tended to struggle in school and were labeled as learning disabled, which reinforced their internal beliefs that they were "dumb." It's not that these students are dumb, they just learn by using different techniques than those presented in the group classroom.

There are 7 different methods of learning styles. They consist of visual, aural, verbal, physical, logical, social, and solitary. If you are a visual learner, then you prefer using pictures and images to learn. The aural kind means you prefer using sound and music. The third is verbal which means you prefer using words in both speech and writing. Physical means that you prefer using your body, hands, and feeling. Logical allows the learner to understand by using reasoning and systems. Social means you learn best in groups or with other people. Solitary style means the individual prefers to work alone and use self-study.

By knowing your learning style, you can improve the way that you learn. This can improve both your school and work experience. By understanding learning styles, teachers can create an environment in which everyone learns from each other, and not just those that share the same learning style.

Learning is a core skill that we all must master. By not only learning more facts and skills, but understanding the way we learn, we can all accomplish much more. If we continually learn throughout our lifetime, we will not only earn more but do much better in our careers.

Learning is a process that requires us to be paying attention, either consciously or unconsciously, in order to remember the knowledge permanently. Not only do we have to remember the information but where it was filed in our brains. Other important factors in learning include; finding a personal reason to learn the info, be motivated, make the info relevant to you, imagine when you might use the info in the future, have positive expectations, and have a calm mind. The mind works best when it is relaxed.

Learning is a never ending task. It can make your life better and easier. By knowing the style that you learn best, you can cater to yourself and improve your learning. You can also start developing the other learning techniques, allowing yourself to excel in both school and work because you can communicate, teach, and learn no matter what learning style is being presented.
