The program will join other healthcare-related offerings that comprise the school's catalogue of online learning offerings. Officials told the website that this course of study aims to address the demand for more professionals in this field who are needed throughout the state.

"By 2014, 30 million more people are going to access healthcare that previously did not," Randy Stevens, medical director for the school, quoted on the website. "That is going to pose a real dilemma for the medical community because the providers, particularly physicians, are in short supply."

Officials noted that the program will educate students using real-world experiences and focus on practices with enrollees and providers from other disciplines.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for physician assistants are expected to increase by 39 percent by 2018. This number translates to nearly 29,200 more jobs.

Officials told the news provider that the program is set to begin in the spring 2012 semester. The school will partner with Indiana University East to offer students the two-track master’s program, which will involve both classroom and online learning.

The two-track program will provide training in nursing education and administration. Officials noted that the management part of the program will prepare graduates for advanced-level positions at hospitals, surgery clinics, extended care facilities and nurse managed health centers.

“We are fulfilling our responsibilities to our alumni and to the region,” Linda Wallace, dean of the School of Nursing, told the news source. “We have been asked for years to provide this degree, and now we can deliver a quality masters program to all nurses in our region.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for medical and health services managers – which require a masters degree in nursing administration – are expected to increase by 16 percent over the next seven years.

Many students are taking online classes on their own time while they work full-time jobs, while others are looking to graduate and start careers in high-demand professions.

In an effort to help students graduate in fewer months, CollegeAmerica recently announced a FastFlex program that can help individuals graduate with a four-year degree within 36 months. Officials said that the school offers tracks in business, healthcare, computers and graphic arts.

Furthermore, two-year courses of study can be completed within 20 months. Classes begin at the start of month allowing students to enroll and start immediately.

According to Reuters, online education enrollment rose by nearly 17 percent in 2009. Furthermore, nearly 25 percent of U.S. students currently take at least one web-based course.
