University faculty ditched the requirement after several complaints that the so called “fat course” undermined the school principle of equality for all students.

The school had added the policy in order to try and address the high rates of obesity and diabetes in the African American community. About 80 students received emails from administration saying they had to take the fitness course in order to graduate. The intention was to target students with a body mass index higher than 30, which draws the line between obese and overweight individuals.

The "Fitness for Life” course is no longer required but is highly suggested to students after a freshman wellness class addresses a number of health issues. Whether students take the course or not is purely their decision. It may be highly suggested by administrators but it is not likely students that are obese will sign up.

If students were complaining before they even signed up it is not likely they will volunteer to take such a class. It’s unfortunate though because obesity is a growing problem in America and physical exercise is one way to combat it. But if no one is willing to cut back on the calories or exercise then there is a problem.

Granted there is a problem that would make me angry and that’s the fact that only obese individuals were required to take the course. I would hate to be labeled that way. Everyone should be required to take the course. If someone’s skinny or below the 30 BMI it doesn’t mean they’re healthy either. Everyone should be taking the class, but I agree with the administrators especially those with a BMI over 30. However, the approach was wrong.

Children and teenagers would spend hours sitting on the couch in front of the TV. There's nothing wrong with playing video games as long as it doesn't interfere with your life. Just be sure that video games don't overtake doing things with friends, playing sports, doing homework, reading, and getting chores done. Nintendo shouldn't be a problem as long as your playing time doesn't get out of control. Everything in moderation.

It's only when someone spends all of their extra time playing, that you might begin to worry. As long as these kids, teenagers, and adults are balancing their lives Nintendo can provide a little entertainment. But if they are spending a lot of their time in front of the TV and not getting exercise then that is a serious problem.

Luckily though the Nintendo Wii makes kids be active. Instead of sitting on the couch they have to get up and move and jump. The interactive game has given kids entertainment that's active without being boring or feeling like a workout. A new study is showing that kids may be healthier now because Wii sports games and the fit series increases energy expenditure as much as moderate intensity exercise.

Instead of kids being forced off the couch by their parents to supposedly get some fresh air and exercise which usually doesn't end up happening, they can play games while staying in shape. These workouts won't be as intense as jogging or playing a live sport, but at least it gets them moving.

The study funded by Nintendo concluded that one-third of games and activities in the sports and fit packages meet the guidelines for moderately intense exercise. Some of these exercises may even help you reduce your risk of cardiovascular diseases. By using the Wii you can get some extra exercise in, but it shouldn’t be your only source of exercise.

Although if you want to know about the best Wii exercises the best one is the single-arm stand featured in Wii fit. Other great options include the boxing game, tennis, and baseball. However, other games such as golf do not provide exercise. There are many fun games Wii offers that are both fun and give you a good workout. Wii is also working on games that also require higher levels of physical activity. Nintendo game makers are currently calling on other companies and producers to develop more active entertainment.

These games are helping with the growing obesity epidemic in the U.S. and other parts of the world. Game makers are trying to increase physical activity in their games. While the Wii shouldn't be considered your work out, it offers gamers at least some exercise. And in this country when it comes to exercise anything is better than nothing.
