People can find virtually everything they need online, such as news and entertainment, for free. If you come in and try to charge people for this, they simply won’t come to your website. The largest and most successful web sites are designed to increase ad revenue not any sort of subscriptions. If you have a lot of people coming to your website everyday, you will be able to make a lot of money in ads everyday.

However, some companies that are already hurting are trying to go against this idea. Newspapers are taking a beating because of the Internet, and they currently offer their services for free. That is all about to change though for certain companies. For those of you who currently enjoy the NY Times or the Wall Street Journal for free online: get ready to start paying subscription fees again. This may or may not turn out well for news companies, but it may be their last chance to stay afloat a little bit longer.
