Southeastern Illinois College recently announced that a new program geared toward high school students will help enrollees earn college credit online, Carmi Times reports.
Officials told the news source that the college offers three programs that can provide students an opportunity to earn college credit for a minimal cost, or even free of charge.
The Early College Program allows eligible high school students to complete college-level courses while they are still attending high school, which can give them a head start when entering postsecondary education. As a result, enrollees can earn up to a year or more of college credit while still in grade school.
Officials added that the program credits applies to both bachelors degree transfer courses as well as online career and technical education courses. Students are eligible to apply for the curriculum if they live in the area, have completed at least their freshman year of high school and have earned a grade point average between 3.25 and 4.0.
According to the Sloan Survey for Online Learning, web-based enrollment numbers increased by an estimated 1 million students in 2009.
