France Hosts No. 1 Divorce Fair

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

France Hosts No. 1 Divorce FairFrance is now having its first divorce fair. This is quite the dreary ending to the city of romance and loves saga. Thousands of people attended the fair this year. Apparently nearly one of two marriages in France ends in divorce, but thirty years ago there were only 50,000 divorces. Today France has over 260,000 annually, which means this fair caters to a large group of people.

The "New Start" trade fair focused on the booming market by bringing in 60 stands. These stands represented everything from law firms and counselors to makeover specialists and tarot card readers. They even had talks entitled "Plastic surgery's role in re-conquering your image," "Meeting on the Web," and "Separation: What does a lawyer do?"

The fact that there is a divorce fair is absolutely ridiculous and that thousands attended is even more pathetic. This is not only a waste of time but also money. It sounds like these people are vulnerable and vendors are taking advantage of them.

Another thing that shows the quality of the fair is the title of the talks. These people might not be in the right frame of mind to decide on plastic surgery and dating on the web. Plus, if they're going to have talks why don't they talk about more important things like "How to handle your finances" or "Helping your child survive divorce."

Oh and all the vendors that they have. It's not that hard to look in a phone book, on the web, or get recommendations from friends and acquaintances for good lawyers. Next, what purpose is a tarot card reader? They will just tell you a bunch of crap that you want to hear. You might as well call up a friend that will not only serve as a listening board but also offer you good advice and offer encouragement. This advice unlike the tarot card reader and fortune teller will actually help you with a fresh start.

Just the fact that this fair exists is pretty sad. It seems the people that attended are seriously desperate or just wanting to meet more people that have the same sob story. If you want to go meet people go out online or to the local bar. Don't get interested in people at the fair that aren't emotionally over their divorce because it will most likely just end up causing more pain.

These supposed services are supposed to help you. It seems they are just helping themselves to you pocket book and your time. Since they're trying to help you so much they might as well invite real estate agents, furniture reps. and automobile makers in. They could really help you start a new life. Oh and the tips on how to apply more seductive makeup? Give me a break this is the dumbest idea and even attendees of the fair also thought it was a bit weird.

If you want to feel better about yourself hit the gym or change your hair. Even though it's not necessary, many women feel they need to make changes in order to attract others and boost their self-esteem. If it's this soon they are still vulnerable and should probably be by themselves for a while at least until the divorce is finalized. It will be better for themselves, their child, and whoever they date in the future. All of the issues will be solved and they can focus solely on their relationship rather than previous baggage that they're still carrying around.

50,000 Persian Soldiers Vanished

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

50,000 Persian Soldiers VanishedTwo Italian archaeologists believe they have found the Persian army buried in the Sahara Desert. It's been 2,500 years since the army vanished and archaeologists may have solved the mystery from 525 B.C. Hundreds of bones and skulls along with bronze weapons, a silver bracelet and an earring were recovered.

The army prior to vanishing had been under the direction of Persian King Cambyses II. Cambyses had sent 50,000 soldiers from Thebes to attack the Oasis of Siwa. Troops were ordered to destroy the oracle at the Temple of Amun. According to legend the oracle needed to be attacked because he would have predicted the death of King Cambyses.

The army had been walking in the desert for seven days when they reached an oasis. This was the last that the army was ever seen. Legend had it that a strong wind arose and brought vast and deadly columns of sand that enveloped and covered up the troops. Because of the sand the troops completely disappeared. Over the centuries no trace of these warriors was ever found.

Now two top Italian archaeologists Angelo and Alfredo Castiglioni claim they have found sufficient evidence to suggest that the army was swallowed up in a sandstorm. The archaeologists have spent 13 years researching and had been on five expeditions in the desert before finding them.

While on another research project the Castiglioni's saw a large rock formation near the small oasis in Siwa that was unique and stood alone. The rock seemed like a natural shelter so they searched around a little bit and found arrow tips and a bronze dagger that they knew were from Cambyses' time.

In the following years the Castiglioni brothers determined the missing army hadn't taken the caravan route as previously thought. Most archaeologists spent time on that route but the Castiglionis took a different route and it paid off. This route had allowed the army to march undisturbed. Plus the team found desiccated water spots that would have provided enough water for the army to survive along that route.

The archaeologists believe that the sand storm drove the army to seek shelter in different locations. They believe they headed in different directions and that's why 50,000 skeletons have never been found. They have found little pockets of where skeletons remain. Bedouins had found some remains in the past and showed the Castiglionis the bones. The Bedouins even told the Castiglionis about a beautiful Persian sword that they had previously sold to American tourists.

Because of the bones and artifacts, the archaeology team is confident they solved the centuries old mystery of the missing Persian army. They believe that most of the remains are buried in several locations under 16.4 feet of sand. The team reported their findings to the Geological Survey of Egypt and turned over the recovered objects but has yet to hear anything.

Life in Eastern Europe Before the Berlin Wall Fell

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Life in Eastern Europe Before the Berlin Wall FellDepending on whether you were on the East or West side of Germany after the war ended changed the lives of everyone. Families were separated and not allowed to see each other for decades. It was only after the Berlin Wall fell 20 years ago that East and West reunited.

For East Germans after the war their lives drastically changed. They were in the Communist sector and forced to work in inefficient factories. They were closely monitored and couldn't practice their religious beliefs. They were also completely cut off from the West. During that time, if trains came from the West into the East they were completely dismantled by Communist soldiers in order to make sure nothing was being smuggled in.

East German citizens were also only permitted to travel to Soviet bloc countries like Hungary, Czechoslovakia and others. Also the state ran the press and news was censored. East Germans never really knew what was going on in the world. They were isolated and didn't have much contact with the West side and individuals were not granted personal, cultural, or political freedom.

The long concrete wall reinforced by steel that separated Berlins two sectors was literally a reminder of the division between the two sides of the city. But after years of division the wall and Communism came under fire in 1989. After 20 years of Communist control the citizens were revolting. There were citizens shouting for freedom and demanding more rights.

Soldiers tried to maintain order and keep everyone away from the wall. However, the riots continued and it was only a few days later that the Politburo's information minister called a press conference with journalists from both the East and West sides.

He pulled out a piece of paper the politburo had prepared and very calmly said that citizens of East Germany could apply the next morning for visas to leave through any exits in the wall. Then he left and every journalist in the room remained still from shock. Immediately journalists were planning their stories while leaving the conference. Tom Brokaw was at that press conference on the East side and the guard just let them go through the wall without checking any identification. The Soviet domination of Eastern Europe and especially East Germany had ended.

Immediately the news was out and crowds were gathering at Brandenburg Gate. There were pep rallies, people dancing in the streets, parties, and playing as the East Germans exited and crossed onto the other side of the wall. For many it was their first time and the excitement was escalating.

That night people started chiseling and tearing down the graffiti ridden wall. Some kept pieces to remember that day and how their lives had changed. There were people climbing up on the wall. It was a celebration of not only students, but every generation in East Germany and the Soviet Bloc.

Citizens now had the freedom and the opportunity to pursue whatever they wanted. They could travel and study whatever they wanted. They didn't have to hide their religious beliefs and they could stay out however long they wanted. There was no longer a curfew and celebrations went on for a very long time. These people were no longer prisoners. They had the freedom to determine the rest of their lives because of the determination and power of the people.
