A 150 pound cupcake set the new world record. The 1-foot tall, 2-feet wide cupcake that was on display at the Minneapolis Mall of America had 15 pounds of fudge filling and 60 pounds of yellow icing.
Guinness World Records judge Danny Girton Jr. said it was "fun and creative." The cupcake was made by cakes.com which is run by cake-decoration supplier and marketer DecoPac. Because of the record cupcake, DecoPac a Minneapolis-based company calls itself the world’s largest cake-decoration supplier and marketer.
The cake was designed and made by a team of Pastry chefs. They put a lot of time and thought into producing the cupcake world record holder. "This was a thrill and an honor for Cakes.com," company spokeswoman Jamie Miller said.
The company originally planned to cut up the record cupcake and distribute it to mall patrons. However cakes.com decided to give away 4,000 small cupcakes to mall patrons. The reasoning behind this was that most patrons would not have received any frosting. As for the 150 pound cupcake, it will be going to a pig farm.
