As a parent I tried to raise my children according to biblical principles without much help from their dad. One time he didn't want to take a phone call, shaking his head telling me to say, "He's not here." I told the caller, "He says to tell you that he's not here!" My kids chuckled as his face turned red and I know that it taught them a valuable lesson. After all, how can we expect our kids to speak honestly if we ourselves tell "little white lies" in front of them?
