I myself am an SEO specialist and I received a degree in Communications with an emphasis in Advertising. I didn't realize that I wanted to be involved in SEO until my very last semester in college! I took one class in college in HTML and CSS coding. Most everything I know about SEO and website design is self taught, through internet tutorials. To answer your question I wish I had a dual degree in Marketing and IT so that I could be effective in developing websites with SEO in mind and being able to write like a professional marketer. Writing content is king when it comes to SEO, and technical knowledge will make you a powerhouse who is indispensable at any marketing company. If I had to choose one now I would go back and get a degree in IT. That is a very good question.
