Nutrition science is the study of how the body breaks down food into energy as well as how changes in our bodies affect our digestion. Individuals that wish to study nutrition science will need to study the different parts and functions of the body as well as how digestion is affected by conditions like age, illness, exercise, and pregnancy.
How the nutrition science degree program works is that students will primarily spend their freshman and sophmore years in school completing their generals, then as a junior learning the basic theories about how the body processes nutrients and as senior year focusing on how age, athleticism, and diabetes along with many other conditions affects the way nutrients are absorbed.
Students in nutritional science may also be required to complete a senior thesis and may even have the opportunity to work alongside their professors. Individuals in this profession are required to have at least a bachelor’s degree and may be required to fulfill an internship as part of their degree program as well as a senior thesis. Then after graduation, an individual should take the certification exam and if they pass they become a certified nutritionist.
