Sonographers and Vascular Technologists perform ultrasounds using sound waves in order to detect how the body is or is not functioning. Then they can see what condition the patient has and determine how best to treat it. There are different specialization areas in sonography including the abdomen, breast, obstetrics/gynecology, echocardiography, vascular technology, neurosonology, and ophthalmology. Sonographers are highly trained and skilled professionals that know how to use the equipment, and create images which help physicians diagnose conditions.
