Employment Outlook for Finance and Accounting

The field of finance and accounting is looking very positive. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, finance and accounting is expected to have an increased job growth of 22 percent between now and 2018.  This growth will come as companies need accountants to assist them with implementing more stringent financial regulations to ensure legal financial practices. Also, as the nation's economy grows, more skilled accountants are needed to assist them with their business finances.

Salary Potential in Accounting and Finance

Those in the accounting field have great salary making potential. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, in 2008 accountants in the United States had average salaries between $45,000 and $78,000 annually. The top ten percent made over $102,000 annually. In July 2009, a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers found that graduates with a bachelor's degree in accounting had average salaries starting at around $48,000 annually, and those with a master's degree had starting salaries of almost $50,000 annually.

Colleges Offering Great Programs in Finance and Accounting

Colleges are currently offering great degree programs in finance and accounting. These degree programs include an associate's degrees (2 years), bachelor's degrees (4 years), and master's degrees (2 years beyond bachelor's degree). Some colleges have also made their degrees available on the internet. This allows students to set their own course schedule. It can also make going back to college while still working more feasible.
