Accounting is a great career to be in because of the expected job growth. Businesses, organizations, and the government rely on accountants to record, classify, and summarize money and transactions. They may work as auditors or bookkeepers with the responsibility of preparing, analyzing and recording financial transactions for the government, businesses, and non-profit organizations.
Every company and organization needs an accountant to ensure that their financial information is in order. Accountants and auditors ensure that firms run efficiently and that public records and taxes are accurate and paid on time. The science of accounting is used to communicate and back up a company's claims of how the company is doing to shareholders, managers, investors, government regulators and creditors. It is also used to find out why some companies are successful and others are not. Accountants also prepare financial statements and financial data that helps companies develop budgets, as well as tax liability and planning, along with other financial activities for the new year.
There are many accounting programs for students to choose from but students should make sure that the program is accredited by an organization with national recognition before they sign up. Students will gain knowledge during their degree program about basic accounting, cost accounting, taxation, financial statement analysis, payroll accounting and accounting technology. And students should recognize that after graduation they may need to take a licensing or certification test especially if they want to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
