Construction Management
WHAT'S THE JOB OUTLOOK? The increased complexity of construction projects due to new advances in building materials and construction methods will boost demand for specialized management-level personnel within the construction industry. The working conditions in the construction industry are challenging, so jobs often do not attract a sufficient number of qualified job seekers.
Employers in today's job market are looking for candidates with a college degree in building technology. Heald College can provide you with a degree, hands-on training, and the experience to prepare you for a rewarding career in this growing field.
WHAT WILL I DO WITH MY EDUCATION? Graduates of Heald's Construction Management program can pursue rewarding careers as a first line supervisor, construction manager, project manager, site manager, cost estimator, scheduler, or construction superintendent. These positions specialize in the planning, directing, monitoring, and coordinating processes for a wide variety of construction projects, including the building of all types of residential, commercial and industrial structures, roads, bridges, wastewater treatment plants, restaurants, shopping malls, schools, and hospitals.
As a professional in this field, your job responsibilities will vary depending on the type and size of the construction project. You may work out of a main office or a field office at the construction site. You may oversee an entire project or a segment of one depending on the size of the project. You may be responsible for overseeing general contractors and trade contractors throughout the whole construction project. It might be your responsibility, with the assistance of a construction supervisor, to oversee delivery of materials, tools, and equipment. You may also be in charge of obtaining all permits and licenses for the job site. Construction management personnel monitor the overall process of a construction project.
